連系動詞be的用法
I． 概念
連系動詞be，在剛開始學英語句子時，恐怕你首先遇到動詞王國中的成員就是be。不少同學對be的說法不一，這叫be如何「是」好？連系動詞be的基本意思是「是」，其實，不少場合連系動詞be也充當「不是」。真可謂「是也不是」。讓你先一睹be的「容貌」吧。
（1）詢問年齡及回答時be不譯出。
—How old are you? 你多大了？
—I'm eleven.我十一歲。
（2）詢問姓名與回答時be不譯成「是」。
—What's your name? 你叫什麼名字？
—My name is Amy. 我叫Amy。
（3）在一些表示問候的用語及答語中be不譯出。
—How are you? 你好嗎？
—I'm fine. Thank you. 我很好。謝謝。
II． 用法
連系動詞be是am, is, are三者的原形，一般不直接出現在句子中，而是以am, is, are的形式出現。它們各有分工，而且隨著主語的人稱和數的變化而變化。am最專一，始終跟著I轉；are 跟you, we及表復數名詞或復數意義的詞連用；is的交際最廣泛，is與「他、她、它」形影不離，至於名詞單數，指示代詞（this/that）都與is結下不解之緣。
剛開始學習英語的同學，往往對連系動詞be與主語人稱保持一致的問題把握不好。為此，建議你在歌謠中熟悉連系動詞be的「身影」：
我用am，你用are；
is用在他、她、它；
遇到復數全用are。

一般來說，be是當系動詞用的，但是當有助動詞，比如can could will would shall should，後面就要加原型（和普通的動詞差不多），完成事態用been，如have/has/had been
