English language is the international language meaning 60% of the worlds population are speaking in english. This means that we can communicate well if we do know how to speak the language. Moreover the instructions given in some appliances, gadgets, equipments, food labels and etc were mostly written in English. So you will get better understanding of what is going on.

現代英語的發展歷程

那麼，為什麼英語經過一段時間會發生變化了呢？實際上當不同的文化互相溝通時，所有的語言都會發生變化和發展。首先在大約公元450年到1150年的英國，人們所說的英語和今天所說的英語就很不一樣。比起現在我們說的英語它更大程度上是基於日耳曼語的。然後逐漸德在大約公元800年到1150年，英語變得不再那麼像日耳曼語了，因為首先是被講丹麥語的人統治後來是被講法語的人統治。這些新定居者豐富了用於語言尤其是他的詞彙。因此到了十七世紀莎士比亞能夠使用比以往更豐富的詞彙。在1620年一些英國人到美國定居。後來在18世紀一些英國人也被帶到了澳大利亞。英語開始在這兩個國家使用。

最後在19世紀這種語言確定下來。在那時英語的拼寫發生了兩個很大的變化：首先賽繆爾-約翰編寫了他的詞典，後來諾亞-韋伯斯特編寫了《美國英語辭典》。後者體現了美國英語拼寫的不同特色。

英語現在在南亞也被作為一門外語或第二語言使用。例如，印度就有很多人可以說流利的英語，因為英國在1765年到1947年統治著印度。那段時期英語成為政府和教育語言。英語還在新加坡和馬來西亞以及像南非這樣的非洲國家使用。今天在中國學習英語的人數正在快速的增長。實施上，中國可能擁有人數最多的英語學習者。中國英語會發展出自己的特色嗎？只有時間可以證明。
