那時，那個孩子在看電視劇《聊齋》，首先字幕出現：本劇按《聊齋志異》改編。這條讓他產生疑問：《聊齋志異》是本什麼書呢？
伴著疑問，他跟他的媽媽踏上買書之路，到書店以後，那孩子因為得到那個夜晚他吹飛的蒲公英幫助，所以一下子就找到了《聊齋志異》這本書。
在一個矮小而又朴實小屋裡，微弱的燈光充實著這個狹小的空間。那個男孩正在裡面津津有味地讀著，他認真的與書里的每個字交朋友，與它們心與心交流。在這書的世界裡，他見到神魔鬼怪與眾多凄慘的故事，那些故事在他腦海里自由的飛翔。看完這本書後，他嘴角上揚，眼角下垂，露出了兩個圓溜溜的小酒窩，這是笑的表現，原本多哭少笑的他，在今天認識書之後就經常開始笑了，直到他小學四年級的時候，他出現了低迷。
夢魘的到來
那是他庫存的書已近百，但是玩卻取代了書，來充實他的課餘生活，書就不管不顧了：有時書被弄濕了，也不拿去曬；有時書不看，被媽媽罵了也不聽；甚至有時會把書撕來玩。因此，在這件事上，他常常與媽媽產生很多分歧。
後來，小男孩的媽媽手斷了，三處骨折。事情發生的很突然，一個電話打來，就說斷就斷了，小男孩不是很吃驚，只是淡然一笑，嘴角上揚，他以為媽媽病了就沒人管他了但在這次的家長會上，他，改變了看法。
這一次的家長會上，小男孩的媽媽在醫院寫了一篇演講稿，當老師讀起她給男孩的留言的時候，男孩哭了，因為那老師用沙啞的聲音讀著：「我，對不起他（男孩），沒能來參加這次家長會，真的很抱歉。」
