Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve traffic and pollution. What extend do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think more effective?
Bad traffic and increasing pollution are thorny issues challenging every major city in the globe. To combat such problems, government encourages companies to mark up gas price in an effort to decrease car use and cut down waste gas. However it may temporarily alleviate the problem, but is doubtfully the optimal solution.
First of all, consumers and economy would be victimized by such measures. The number of cars in a country directly depends on the proportion of the population affluent enough to own cars. As a result, raises in gas price could invoke hard feelings among this segment of people but would not drastically change their behavior in using cars. Even if the number of cars on road is reced e to higher gas cost, this is not the best way to solve traffic problems. Such policy would hurt the auto instry, place higher costs on current and prospect car owners, and undermine the economy of a nation. In the long run, the final way out could be the construction of better roads and more effective use of available transport facilities.
Secondly, there is evidence that waste gas from cars is not the leading cause of air pollution. The culprit may be the discharge of polluting substances into the atmosphere e to the rapidly growing manufacturing instry. As a result, rection of the number of cars would not return us a blue sky and fresh air. We could better handle this problem if we could increase control over instrial waste discharge and adopt more environmental friendly materials and proction equipment.
Finally, other measures like the application of cheaper and cleaner energy resources could also be a better solution. For example, we now have the ability to make cell-powered or even solar-powered cars. Such energy is completely clean and plentiful. However we still have a very long way to go to turn such technologically possible into affordable and practical procts.
To conclude, it is not the best way to control traffic and pollution by increasing gas price because such action will hurt consumers and economy without achieving what it is aimed for. Measures such as construction of better transport facilities and development of new energy resources could be more effective solutions.

Going through the rush hours is a tiresome business. The prevalence of various public transport has led to severe traffic congestion, ring the rush hours. Being stuck in the long queues of vehicles seems to be a big headache for many city dwellers. Personally speaking, it is about time governments adopted effective measures, drivers should be charged when they need to drive out in a heavy traffic, which will exert a really positive impact on recing the serious traffic conditions.
For a start, paying some permission fees could decrease the incidence of going through the busy traffic. To be more specific, some drivers would be unwilling to drive their cars in order to save money when they have no urgent things. Hence, this will mitigate the pressure of heavy traffic congestion. Further, the decreasing number of cars will also purify the air and rece the noise. As a result, the living quality of the whole city will be greatly optimized, citizens will enjoy a cleaner environment.
This debate reminds me of my own city. Our city government has fewer policies in terms of tackling the pressure of traffic congestion, which negatively influences people』s normal work. The large amount of release of exhaust gas has deteriorated the environment. Even worse, long time wait will ruin the drivers』 moods. Consequently, some people might fail to happily perform their working tasks when they arrive at the workplace. By contrast, the fee from drivers increases the governmental income so that more financial budget could be allocated to perfecting the traffic conditions. Specifically, the government could build more over-bridges to rece the pressure of traffic jam.
Granted, I have to concede that this policy might impose much pressure upon the drivers economically. If they pay even limited amount of money every day, then there will be large sums of money as a whole. What I want to rebut, however, is that in time of a traffic jam, the oil consumption is much more than that of driving a slowly moving car. The cost of gasoline may be even expensive than the counterpart people pay for driving permission.
In closing, I re-affirm my conviction that it is worthwhile to ask for driving permission fees when the traffic is busy.
As a necessary tool in daily life, vehicles, cars and airplanes in particular, have empowered people to go wherever they want, yet are frequently blamed for environmental problems. But it appears to me that in an attempt to address these problems, the simple rise of fuel prices is feasible but not the most effective and efficient solution.
Higher fuel cost in theory will rece air pollution and relieve the fuel shortage. This is mainly because the higher the price of fuel is, the fewer drivers will afford it and cars and other vehicles will be used even less. The emission of greenhouse gases, the main contributor of global warming, will therefore decline and fewer fuels are consumed. However, this is not that simple in real life.Unable to drive cars as usual or to choose other transportation, workers will hardly work efficiently as most of them in today』s world rely heavily on cars and different vehicles especially for long distance commuters. In this case, they would rather pay the higher price than earn less or even lose their job.
Increasing the cost of fuel could not resolve all environmental problems. During the delivery of oil to different places around the world, oil more often than not leaks into the oceans and contaminates the water, a severe environmental problem that seems to be unsolvable now. What』s worse, marine animals will die mainly because their habitat, the ocean, has been polluted and become inhabitable.
This suggestion is less workable than other measures, like taking advantage of some cutting-edge technology and science to actively seek alternative fuel. For example, mainly powered by clean fuels or electricity, some fuel-efficient vehicles and electric cars, both of which have been widely used in most places of the world, not just burn less fuel but generate few emission.
In conclusion, viable as it is , increasing the cost of fuels is not ideal and to a larger extent fails to be realistic and other ways need to be introced.
