Western Customs and manners
Nowadays, there appears a phenomenon that the western customs are spreading into the east countries step by step, thus making many inhabitants who live in big cities enjoy themselves on these western festivals such as Christmas Day, April Fool's Day, etc. Such phenomenon shows us that the world people are getting close graally and the world is becoming smaller and smaller as well. Therefore, in my opinion, it's a normal phenomenon as well as a necessary trend.
Since we have been to Australia, we know how compulsory it is to learn the customs and manners. Australia is an English-speaking country, so many customs are similar to the British ones. For example, the Australians drive or walk on the left hand and you will be fined seriously if you drive on the right hand just like what you do in China.
In the first place, let』s talk about the language in Australia, you will find the language Australians say does not sound like typical English. For instance, the local people read 『』 like 『To die』.Don』t be astonished if you hear them say 『I am very happy to die (today)』 I advise you to ask the guide to explain to you the special pronunciations of the local people.
In the second place, you should understand the manners of the native people. Usually, foreign people are very enthusiastic, so you should be as zealous to accept their friendship. Smiling is the most important thing to do, laugh or smile to them often show your sincereness.
Once,on my way to school,I saw an old man walking to me.Although we have never met before,he offered to say 'Good morning'to me with a smile on his face. This shinny greeting made me have a nice mood whole day.It can not be more usual in foreign country to greet to a stranger, but in China, it's a very rare thing.
When you have meal with foreign friends, always be aware of your table manners as well as how to use folk and spoon correctly. All in all, show the foreigners your shinny smile and good manners.
Now I want to share some details with you which we had seen in Sydney Opera House. When I entered the famous opera house,I found that all the people were wearing formal clothes. And than the concert started, the whole concert hall had no other sound but the songs. When the church choir turned,an old lady supported by the armchair came onstage slowly——she must be over eighty ,yet she is still active in this kind of activity.I was deeply moved by her spirit.
In conclusion, as a Chinese student in other countries, it』s our ty to tell them the Chinese splendid cultures and good manners. In return ,we must learn something from our foreign friends.

As we all know, different countries have different table manners. Today, I』 like to introce something about Chinese table manners. It』s very necessary to learn table manners in China. In China, table manners are too much. For instance, you are not supposed to eat with knives and forks. Chinese usually use chopsticks instead. But we are not supposed to stick our chopsticks into our food. But we are supposed to pick up our bowl to eat. And we are supposed to let the old start eating first. And we are allowed to talk at the table. However, you can』t talk too loud and laugh too crazily. In fact, in China, table manners are not so serious . so , you don』t need to worry about them so muc
Good manners mean being polite, respectful, thoughtful and helpful.
Be polite to everyone, no matter who he is. Say 「please」 and 「thank you」 whenever you want people to do something. Don』t be rude, insulting or demanding. Don』t be angry or upset. Even if you get angry, you should be patient and polite.
Show respect to everyone, male or female, young or old. Speak to them respectfully. Listen to their advice, and do not interrupt them.
Be thoughtful. Imagine yourself in the other』s position; respect their needs, wishes, and opinions. Consider their feelings, and don』t do or say things that will hurt them.
Help people whenever you can. Hold the door for one whose arms are full of packages. Offer to help an old woman to cross the street. If someone asks you for directions, take the time to help him if you can. This will brighten both his day and yours.
Having good manners makes things easier. When you are nice to people, they are nice to you in return. Show them good manners and they will do the same to you.
Book 3 Lesson 14 The man upstairs中,出現過「I』m sorry to trouble you, comrade.」

Olympic Games and me
I am looking forward the Beijing Olympics on August 8, 2008 very much. This is the opening cenemony of the Beijing Olympic Games, and the day the world sports family gathering together, as well as the day Chinese people are really proud of.
As a small master, I really want to become a glorious Olympic volunteer, but I still too little to really become a volunteer. But I can still make contributions to the Beijing Olympic Games.
First of all, as a citizen of Beijing, I will use my enthusiasm and smile to greet every foreign friends from all over the world, and to show off our Beijingers』 friendly and hospitable spirit so that every foreign friends will know the city by the faces. Next, I want to learn English harder so that ring the Olympics I could speak to foreign friends and community in English, And do my best to help them, For example, be a little translator and to help foreigners when they ask way. Let them know China by the behaviors of us.
Again, I would like to learn more about Beijing's Olympic and for the future to our foreign friends knowing more about our beautiful Beijing, as well as the long history and splendid culture, I would like to mobilize each and every one of my classmates, we will study together and civilize etiquette together to strengthen and promote environmental awareness for the Beijing Olympic Games into a true "Green Olympics, People's Olympics, Hi-tech Olympics" from ourselves and from now on. "One world, one dream," I hope my dream will become a reality..
Today, in front of the National Museum of the Olympic countdown card figures show that just 800 days, we eagerly looked forward to for a long time, 2008 will be the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing. Not new lights, and not cross the line, and not drink driving, not Luantingluanfang : : Yesterday, the city's 300 buses, taxi drivers issued jointly "civilized journey starting with me" initiative for the upcoming 29th Olympic Games preparation. Olympics graally approaching, and as we ordinary people in the excitement I, but should use their own civilization action to meet the arrival of the Olympic Games. Olympics is a sports event is held to States, organized the city's comprehensive quality tests, which include economic level, the management level, and so on, which is particularly important that the public were more civilized. Olympic short 10 days, tens of thousands of athletes gathered in urban areas is the most worrying thing. Beijing Lu very block is an indisputable fact that, with the city's rapid development will bring results, but it is undeniable with some great drivers uncivilized traffic. Arbitrarily and lines, stop, drink driving, etc., these uncivilized acts, not only to Lu Tian Du, the more people they Tian. The Beijing transit, a taxi driver driving initiatives civilization is the civilization with their own actions contribute to the improvement of the Beijing traffic, but also for Olympic glory. Of course, the Olympics is not just a matter drivers were equally different things. The Olympic Games, how magnificent language and does not require a grand activities, but we need to begin to act, as the driver to drive civilization, pedestrians have to follow the rules, vendors should abide by integrity : : Only people are civilized, to comply with laws, regulations and public morality, I believe 08 of the Olympic Games will be the best Olympic Games ever.
The 2008 Olympic Games and I
The year of 2008 is getting closer and closer to us. We need to take actions from now on to prepare for the game. What we need to do most is to work on our disadvantages and shortcomings. As a student of Senior high, I can do my own part. Although I can』t transform our city into more a beautiful place on my own, I can help Beijing in small ways and encourage our classmates and people around me to follow my lead.
Let me take the environment for example, the atmosphere around Beijing is quite disappointing, factories and cars keep giving off exhausts into the air, we can hardly see the blue sky with our naked eyes, because the sky is covered with a thick layer of harmful substances. The sky is gray instead of blue. To our delight, the government has passed some laws of protecting the air, and we can do something useful, too. For example, whenever we go out for a long distance, ride the bike or take the buses and subways instead of taxis. You may not have a clue how it works. Of course doing that only by one person is far from enough, but we can let more people do that together. In that case the result may be more than we bargained for.
Another thing we need to work on is our English skills. Teachers and parents often put great emphasis on our English skills especially listening and speaking. I want to be a volunteer in 2008, to be an interpreter. For now, I must do something helpful to improve my spoken English. Rome isn』t build in a day, so is English. It can』t be improved in a day or two. It takes time and energy. There are no shortcuts to improve your spoken English; the most proctive way is to grab all opportunities around you to open your mouth. For instance, taking part in all kinds of English contests is a good way, you can meet some excellent contestants, and you can share the experience of learning and some good method of learning. I will keep participating in all English activities to polish up my English. I』m sure by the year of 2008, I will be able to master English well just as my mother tongue.
All in all, I』m sure that Beijing Olympic Games will be one of the most successful Games in history. I believe our long-cherished dream will be fulfilled in a perfect way!
