(一)用“写长法”训练
“写长法”，即：针对学生学外语多年而不会运用的困境，通过大量的语言输入，以设计激发学生表达真情实意和写作冲动的任务为教学目的，在一定的学习阶段，顺应外语学习的规律，通过调节作文长度要求，逐步加大写作量，促使学生冲破外语学习的极限，由此增强学习成就感，提高自信心，将外语知识加速打造成外语运用能力。该方法强调“从短到长”、“集腋成裘”，自然而然地我们就可以写出长句子、长文章。从中我们可以看出语言输入的重要性。
(二)重视日常积累
多积累一些精彩的词、短语和句子，是提高英文写作能力的重要内容。积累一个词，并不是只记住表面的意思，而是要深入了解其使用语境，弄清其引申的含义。比如，The picture fired my imagination。这句话中的fire一词，原本是个名词，但这里可以接宾语，很明显做动词。根据其基本意思，我们可以猜出此处的意思是“点燃、燃起”，意思相当于stimulate。我们从这一点可以看出fire比stimulate要好很多，因为fire一词可以在读者心中引发无穷的想像，非常形象。
对于一些精彩的句子，应该熟读并模仿，在写作中如果能用上，立刻使文章增色不少。这里所说的精彩的句子，并不是指很生僻的句子，而是一些比较新颖、生动的句子。比如：The year of 1997 witnessed the return of Hong Kong tothe arms of motherland。同样的意思，如果我们写成这样：In 1997，Hong Kongreturned to the alms of motherland，文采就差很远。
(三)多用过渡词语
作文中要多运用过渡词，增加句子的逻辑性。恰当运用过渡词可以使文章结构紧凑，过渡自然，避免脱节现象。时间上的衔接词有“then、as time goesby、day after day、graally、finally”等，表因果关系的有“as a result、because of、thanks to”等。
(四)背诵经典范文
对于语言的输入，主要靠平时的积累。平时学习的过程中，建议背诵新概念第二、三、四册。如果时问不是很充裕，强烈建议背诵第三册的后30篇，要真正达到滚瓜烂熟的程度。如果到了考前，那就需要快速突击了。这时候就需要背诵大量的范文。有些同学天天写，写作水平还是不见提高，所以光靠自己写是不行的，如果没有什么参照，思想越挖越空，最后就没什么可写了。只有通过积累，模仿别人的优秀文章，才可以获得写作的高分。模仿要注意两点：其一，要有可以模仿的文章；其二，要理解文章，理解句子结构、段落结构和用词。通过不断的模仿，语法错误会越来越少，句子结构能力会越来越强，用词能力大大增强。
