伴着疑问，他跟他的妈妈踏上买书之路，到书店以后，那孩子因为得到那个夜晚他吹飞的蒲公英帮助，所以一下子就找到了《聊斋志异》这本书。
在一个矮小而又朴实小屋里，微弱的灯光充实着这个狭小的空间。那个男孩正在里面津津有味地读着，他认真的与书里的每个字交朋友，与它们心与心交流。在这书的世界里，他见到神魔鬼怪与众多凄惨的故事，那些故事在他脑海里自由的飞翔。看完这本书后，他嘴角上扬，眼角下垂，露出了两个圆溜溜的小酒窝，这是笑的表现，原本多哭少笑的他，在今天认识书之后就经常开始笑了，直到他小学四年级的时候，他出现了低迷。
梦魇的到来
那是他库存的书已近百，但是玩却取代了书，来充实他的课余生活，书就不管不顾了：有时书被弄湿了，也不拿去晒；有时书不看，被妈妈骂了也不听；甚至有时会把书撕来玩。因此，在这件事上，他常常与妈妈产生很多分歧。
后来，小男孩的妈妈手断了，三处骨折。事情发生的很突然，一个电话打来，就说断就断了，小男孩不是很吃惊，只是淡然一笑，嘴角上扬，他以为妈妈病了就没人管他了但在这次的家长会上，他，改变了看法。
这一次的家长会上，小男孩的妈妈在医院写了一篇演讲稿，当老师读起她给男孩的留言的时候，男孩哭了，因为那老师用沙哑的声音读着：“我，对不起他（男孩），没能来参加这次家长会，真的很抱歉。”
