這部分內容主要考察容的是動詞ing形式的知識點：

動詞-ing形式（v-ing）包括傳統語法的動名詞和現在分詞兩個部分。動詞的-ing形式具有動詞的特徵，同時又具有名詞、形容詞和副詞的特徵，因此它可以在句中作主語、表語、定語、賓語、賓語補足語和狀語。

作定語，單個分詞作定語時放在所修飾名詞前。分詞短語作定語時放在後，並且名詞與現在分詞之間存有邏輯上的主謂關系。這是區分現在分詞作定語和動名詞作定語的判斷方法之一。

某些現在分詞作定語時，已不再表示動作，已經從分詞變為了形容詞詞性，如interesting story，an exciting match。這些也可以屬於現在分詞作定語，但是不能轉化為相應的定語從句，但是可以有三級變化（原級比較級最高級）和被某些副詞如very修飾。
