一、英語閱讀常遇到的問題
(一)傳統閱讀教學重語法影響的延續。由於課時和考試壓力的原因，教師的教學活動往往偏重於英語語法的講解與訓練。許多老師對於閱讀的理解只限於課內課文的閱讀分析和課外閱讀理解的應試訓練。在課堂上把文章進行分解，力求把課文講熟講透，不放過任何語言點。同時由於閱讀理解在考試中所佔比例較大，老師時常會有意無意地把這一「講熟講透」習慣帶入課外閱讀理解活動，使得對語言知識的講解大大超過對文章本身所要表達信息的分析。學生也被迫從通過閱讀獲取信息交流思想轉入忙於記錄字詞句的用法。長期下來，學生很容易形成思維定勢：閱讀就是為了更好地做題，閱讀就是為了學會某些詞句和表達方式。使他們的閱讀沒有新意、沒有亮點，積極參與的願望漸失，也就慢慢失去對閱讀的興趣。另外，有些老師急於試圖提高學生的閱讀水平，傾向於選用一些難度較大的閱讀材料。這種揠苗助長式的閱讀訓練助長了學生對閱讀的恐懼感，難以讀懂的挫敗感最終會讓他們放棄對英語閱讀的喜愛。傳統的語法教學使學生在整個教學過程中都處於被動狀態，學生的學習主體性受到了嚴重的約束和壓制，從而對閱讀課的教學不感興趣甚至產生厭煩情緒。
（二）單詞與句法知識儲備不足。在閱讀中，學生不可避免地會遇上生詞。根據馬丁 韋德爾閱讀理論，如果一篇文章中所遇見的生詞過多,閱讀者在閱讀中的注視(fixation)就會加時,且回視(regression)率大大提高。大腦對眼睛輸送的直觀信息理解就會出現問題，閱讀者也就會產生膽怯心理，害怕這些生詞會使自己對文章的理解造成障礙。漸漸地從怕遇到生詞逐步演變為怕閱讀。有些學生知道句中每一個單詞的意思，但卻無法理解整句含義。他們孤立了每個詞與周圍詞的關系，從而無法看懂句子的結構。如果一個句子中含有多個非謂語動詞或從句時，他們就有可能把握不住句子結構，不知所雲。了解語篇的組織結構對文章的理解也很重要，如敘述和過程描寫的時間順序，動態動詞的運用等等。有些學生只注重句法規則而忽視語篇結構，對語境與文章背景知識知之甚少，這也是阻礙其閱讀能力提高的重要因素。了解規則且知其具有的意義，並把他們運用到經常出現的語境中理解其功能，才會有助閱讀能力的提高。
（三）對跨文化意識的忽視。有些學生往往誤以為只要掌握了相當量的英語語音、語法、詞彙知識，英語就可以學得差不多了，英語閱讀就不會存在障礙。平時閱讀教學中我們常常會碰到這樣的現象：一篇短文對相應水平的學生來說幾乎不存在生詞或難以理解的片語，但他們就是不能理解其內容，問題就在於文化差異或知識領域的不了解。不同的國家有不同的文化背景，即使同一個名稱也有不同的意義。例如public school在美國指的是政府辦的、不收學費的公立學校，private school才是私立學校。但在英國public school則指一種私立的寄宿學校，為培養將來要升學或從政的英才服務的非公立，也不平民化，如伊頓公學(Eton)。語言受文化影響，但又是文化的一個重要組成部分，閱讀正是人們相互之間進行思想交流的手段和工具。因此，要想學好英語，真正提高英語閱讀能力，跨文化意識的培養是非常重要的。英語社團文化意識內容的適當導入，不但可以提高學生的學習興趣，同時還可滿足學生調整自身知識結構的需要，為今後進—步的英語知識體系構建打下良好基礎。
(四) 缺乏閱讀資源分配技巧。閱讀目的包括了解中心思想、了解細節、了解段落大意、進行分析和評價、簡單的閱讀欣賞等。瓦格納和斯騰伯格（Wagner & Sternberg,1987）關於閱讀時間分配實驗研究表明：好的閱讀者會根據不同的閱讀目的而進行閱讀時間分配，而一般的和交差的閱讀者要麼是在不同的任務中進行同樣的時間分配，要麼就是任意地分配時間。他們使用的閱讀方法與給定的目的要求並不對應。由於閱讀測驗卻測不出閱讀者的時間分配狀況，學生往往忽視閱讀時間分配技巧，而這一點正是提高閱讀水平、體驗成功閱讀和提升閱讀興趣的關鍵。
二、提高閱讀效率策略
(一)改進英語閱讀教學模式。閱讀教學不同於課文教學。課文教學的特點是少、慢、精，需要字斟句酌，並配適量的拓展性練習。而英語閱讀教學是以信息查找與整理歸類為主要目的，具有多、快、廣的特點。所以閱讀教學在教材的選擇和教學方法運用上不能與課文教學混為一談。教師既要做到配合課文選擇相應文化背景的材料，又要根據不同年級學生年齡和認知能力特點控制閱讀速度、調節閱讀材料的量。在閱讀教學活動中，我們的重點目標是訓練學生科學處理英語語言信息的能力，培養學生能就不同的閱讀任務和目標調節閱讀速度，從而實現英語語言信息的科學查找與加工處理。在閱讀中逐步掌握技巧，培養興趣。我們還要積極引導學生憑借現有的第二語言閱讀能力，學會從自己的興趣和文化背景出發選擇適合自己的閱讀材料，逐步養成學生樂於閱讀英語材料的良好習慣，促使學生

教師怎樣進行有效英語閱讀教學？
一、閱讀前
1、激發學生閱讀興趣。在閱讀前，教師要充分激發學生閱讀興趣，喚醒他們關於文章的知識和體驗，做好鋪墊，使學生處於思維活躍，熱情高漲的狀態。
2.預測文章內容。在閱讀前，教師可以利用課本上的插圖或問中的標題要學生對將要學習的文章內容進行預測。
3、正確處理好詞彙。在大多數閱讀材料中都有較多的詞彙，教師在閱讀前要對閱讀材料與詞彙做個分析，對一些重要的引起理解障礙的詞彙，教師可以在閱讀前設置一定的語境引入。
二、閱讀中
1、明確閱讀時間，布置任務。學生在閱讀的時候，教師要引導學生教師主動積極參與閱讀，要學生明確閱讀時間，教師要布置好任務。
2、整體把握，注重語篇閱讀。教師要學生務必從整體上理解和把握文章，不要逐詞閱讀，不要太過於注重每個單詞,每句話的意思。做到詞不離句,句不離段,段不離篇。
