結合自己平時的教學實踐，我談談提高小學高年級學生英語閱讀能力的途徑和方法：
一、利用課本閱讀資源，提高學生閱讀能力
現行的《牛津小學英語》教材，安排了各種各樣的閱讀材料，而且圖文並茂，
語言生動有趣，是學生最好的閱讀資源。針對五、六年級教材，認真抓好課堂教學，提高課堂教學質量，精心設計每個Unit中的A部分，幫助學生准確理解課文，就是引領學生正確完成一篇閱讀理解的方法，我們可以從以下幾個方面著手：
1.粗讀和略讀課文，布置簡單的任務，學生快速閱讀全文，理清文章脈絡，了解大意，並回答簡單問題。
2.精讀課文，學生互相討論語言知識點，教師指出重點、難點，同時幫助學生對課文進行整體理解。例如：根據5B Unit 3「Hobbies」的閱讀教材，我設計了這樣幾個問題：(1)What』s Ben』s hobby? (2) What』s Mike』s hobby? (3)Do Helen and Yang Ling have any hobbies ? What are they ? (4) What kind of stamps do you like ? 教師的提問並非無的放失，這樣的提問可喚起學生注意，鼓勵學生積極參與；還可探測學生認知深度，引導學生進行創造性思維。
3.總結課文，對課文進行信息梳理、歸納和總結，使信息的吸收得到強化和鞏固。為此，常用的方法是對課文進行改編，讓學生填入適當的單詞和片語。例如：在閱讀完5B Unit8「At the weekends」後，可讓學生完成如下的填詞：At the weekends, Wang Bing often_________. Sometimes he goes swimming, sometimes he plays basketball, because(因為)he and Mike like _______ very much. Helen likes ________, she and Yang Ling often do housework at home.
