第一是你的英英詞庫。
即你是否擁有英語對英語的同義詞詞庫，還是只知道中文的意思，要知道這是國際性的英語考試，是老外出題，所以他絕對不會以你做中國試題的思維考測你，雅思閱讀就是在全文找答案，可是你所定位的詞很多時候不會老老實實的坐在原文里等著你，這就需要你具備英語同義詞的能力。比如有一道題目，是T/F/NG，題目是：
The Medical reference books in Tang Dynasty range from both academical and practical contents.
這句話的考點詞是非常明確的，醫療書是否既包括學術，又包括實踐的內容。如果只有其中一個，而不包括另一個，一定是NO。但是很多考生在原文中怎麼也找不到答案，所以選了NG。但是這樣你就錯了，因為在原文中，academic變成了theoritical,然而practical卻變成了pragmatic,medial reference books轉為了medician texts。在學生應用對應法技巧時，如果沒有同義詞的積累，這題是作不出來的。曾經有學生問我，是否要買市場上的同義詞詞彙書，說句實話，我曾經讀過幾本所謂的名牌學校的書籍，不能否認，詞彙很多，內容很豐富，很厚，所以價錢不菲。可是真正雅思閱讀會考到的詞彙，在書中並不多，而且雅思考官喜歡考的詞彙的同義詞不是很偏，可是這些書卻一個詞彙列出了5，6個同義詞，而且這是不考的，這不僅浪費了學生的精力，而且也打擊了他們學習英語的熱情和自信，因為考雅思真的要這么多的詞彙嗎？其實不然，比如，uitilize,這個詞，雅思閱讀可喜歡考了，每次考，考官其實就是想知道你懂不懂，utilize就是use,所以你只需要知道一個常考的對應詞即可了。每個人的情況不同，也可以登錄文都國際教育官網進行一對一的咨詢。
第二是你的paraprase的能力。
這什麼意思呢？就是改句子的能力。但不是寫句子，讓你改。為什麼考測這個能力，原因很簡單，我在悉尼大學讀書時，每個星期都得寫論文，上萬字的英文，怎麼寫？自己編，沒這個本事，我相信寫中文論文的都是抄的，可是怎麼抄，不改字全抄，那死定了，肯定落下一個抄襲的罪名，搞不好，甚至被開除都有可能，所以抄要有藝術。改詞，像我講的第一種能力，那是初級能力，高手是改句子，換了一句話或幾句話來說，但是表達一樣的意思，這就是我說的in other words。這個能力在heading list題型里，淋漓盡致的體現了考官的此意圖，比如題目：
The company employers show less caring to their staffs.
「老闆對員工不象從前那樣關心了。」原文：The caring image of company has gone.---公司關懷員工的形象一去不返了，多麼的經典了，可是我們在國外讀書時，也改出比這個還要經典的句子，所以考官是希望你具備這樣的識別能力，可是不從這方面的能力訓練，如何能達到這樣的識別能力，技巧又能如何幫助你。
第三是你的句子主幹的分析能力。
通過同義詞或paraphrase的能力找到答案所在處時，你要大概的知道這句話的意思，或者你要使用對應法的技巧。可是學生一看到許多單詞都不懂，慌死了，都不知道怎麼做了，所以要有分析主幹的能力，知道什麼是要看的，什麼不用看。這裡面名堂就多了，老師的經驗就充分的體現在這里，並不是教你看的懂整句話的老師就是很棒，而是教你在單詞都看不懂的情況下，仍然能看的懂，這才是最重要的。因為你到了國外念書，每日的閱讀量是幾百頁，而且許多單詞對你而言可能都很陌生，如果你把每個單詞慢慢的查，每個句式慢慢的分析，你死定了，一天就算你牛，也最多20頁左右，而且看完了，也不記得看了什麼，沒用！這部分是典型的能力+技巧。
第四是你的速度。
就是說要有大義滅親的精神，一道題目1分半做不出，一定要學會放棄，告訴自己，一道題目算什麼，17道沒有了，我還能得6分呢，因為即使是最難的文章也會給學生送分的題目，所以千萬要學會放棄。
第五是你的作題技巧。
缺乏技巧，就像答案在窗戶紙後面，可是你不知道用手指一戳，就可以得到了。為什麼，我曾經教過一個在澳洲留學兩年的學生，雅思閱讀一直都上不了6分，總是5分左右。可是我接手後，我對她說，我有把握2個星期幫你拿至少6分，旁邊有一個學生不樂意了，問：老師，為什麼我們測試結果一樣，她只用2個星期，而我卻要3-4個月，我回答她：「原因很簡單，她的能力事實已經到了6-6.5分，之所以沒有拿到，因為她缺乏做題的方法，可是你卻是兩個都缺乏，光是能力我就需要3個多月才能達到我上述列舉的幾條，技巧2個星期，你就可以掌握了，可是沒有用啊，你沒有能力，光有技巧，你只知道使用的方法步驟，可是你卻沒有實力來支持使用。」結果澳洲回來的女生在2個星期後，果然考了6.5分，她很感謝我，我說你不用謝我，應該謝謝你在澳洲2年的自己努力，沒有那2年的努力，能力的累積，我也不可能幫你在2個星期內拿到這個分數。
