教材里以圖畫為主，每篇課文都有至少兩三幅圖畫講述新單詞和新句子，形象全部由中方操刀，王惟震是當年的主畫人。韓梅梅是王惟震最「小心」的形象：齊耳短發，一臉嚴肅，校服領口最高一顆扣子從沒打開過。但謹慎的王惟震還是決定至少讓其中的一個教師Miss Gao出點「格」。「那個時候老師給孩子的第一印象應該是朴實」，但這位女老師，身材高挑，不但穿著裙子，還燙著卷發，頗有女人味。

那套課本用了7年，2000年人教社推出英語教材修訂版，原來1000詞掌握600詞的要求已經過於低了，需要新版本提升難度，舊教材不用了，Li Lei和Han Meimei退出了90後的視野。「後來改成多套教材並用後，很多人還留戀原來這套。」劉道義說。
對於教材中的李雷和韓梅梅是否曾有一段戀情，此前曾有媒體報道，劉道義在聽說後，曾忍不住哈哈大笑，並回應說，兩個人從頭到尾就沒說過幾句話，因當年怕孩子早戀，刻意不讓倆人有太多來往。而插圖作者王惟震表示：「當時畫的時候就得警惕，不能給孩子傳授任何不良的東西。」
在教社即將推出的一套新版初中英語教材英語教材里HanMeimei已經嫁為人妻Mshan(韓太太)，丈夫叫HanGang(韓剛)。梅梅結婚了，新郎不是李雷，韓太太整天在廚房中忙前忙後，照顧兩個孩子HanKeke（可可）和HanXixi（惜惜）用餐。一副慈母模樣，而LiLei（李雷）則成為了一名戴眼鏡的教師，妻子未知。韓梅梅她的孩子分別叫HanKeke和HanXixi，翻譯過來就是——可可、惜惜，似乎是表達她對不能嫁給LiLei的可惜。
