一、趣味教學，激發閱讀興趣
興趣是最好的老師。因而，小學英語教學必須最大限度地激發學生的學習興趣。而閱讀能力更是直接受到閱讀興趣的影響，閱讀興趣高，閱讀動機就強。教師的任務就是引發學生天生的閱讀興趣和好奇心，使閱讀成為令人愉快的活動。這是順利開展英語閱讀教學、有效提高學生英語閱讀水平的根本保證。對英語學習者來說，如果沒有詞彙，聽、說、讀、寫任何方面都談不上。掌握詞彙是英語學習的基礎，更是進行閱讀的前提。因此在教學中我十分注重學生詞彙的學習和積累。單一的讀讀寫寫的學習方法激發不了學生認讀識記單詞的慾望，只有增加詞彙學習和識記的趣味性，才能使學生真正願意並樂意去積累詞彙。在平時的詞彙教學中，我將兒歌、游戲等多種形式帶進課堂，在學習的同時完成詞彙的積累。
二、精心設計閱讀教學，提高閱讀能力
對於英語學習入門階段的小學生來說，傳統的閱讀教學是比較乏味枯燥的，教師應改革過去的閱讀教學模式，積極探索新的方法，精心設計閱讀教學。為了提高學生的閱讀能力，我認為可以從這幾個方面去嘗試和實踐。一是可以讓學生試著把文章轉變為對話，進行表演。通過編對話、表演，再回去朗讀那篇文章，就更有助於對材料的理解。在這樣一個學習過程中，不僅學生的英語閱讀能力得到了鍛煉，也培養了學生的思維能力、分析能力和創新能力。其次，老師可以尋找一些語言材料和學生一起閱讀和理解，直接幫助學生提高這方面的能力，擴大學生的詞彙量，然後再和學生一起將這些小故事改編成小的短劇。一起來讀一讀，演一演，激發學生的學習興趣。再次，我們也可以參照語文的教學方法，給學生一些圖片，讓學生進行看圖寫話的訓練，自編故事。還有就是老師要盡可能讓學生多接觸一些難度適中，詞彙量合適的文章或對話讓學生閱讀，這對今後也是有幫助的。
三、課外閱讀，豐富閱讀積累
學生英語閱讀能力的提高是一個長期的、循序漸進的過程，毫無捷徑，貴在堅持，重在積累。因此，我鼓勵學生積極進行課外閱讀。課外閱讀脫離了課堂教學的時間、空間的限制，更具有自主性和靈活性。通過課外閱讀，為學生提供大量的接觸英語語料的機會，增強了學生的語感，豐富了學生的知識，了解了中外文化差異，從而提升了學生閱讀及理解的層次，拓展學習的深度與廣度，積小流而成江海，積硅步而至千里。
