那套课本用了7年，2000年人教社推出英语教材修订版，原来1000词掌握600词的要求已经过于低了，需要新版本提升难度，旧教材不用了，Li Lei和Han Meimei退出了90后的视野。“后来改成多套教材并用后，很多人还留恋原来这套。”刘道义说。
对于教材中的李雷和韩梅梅是否曾有一段恋情，此前曾有媒体报道，刘道义在听说后，曾忍不住哈哈大笑，并回应说，两个人从头到尾就没说过几句话，因当年怕孩子早恋，刻意不让俩人有太多来往。而插图作者王惟震表示：“当时画的时候就得警惕，不能给孩子传授任何不良的东西。”
