A Boy and His Tree

A long time ago, there was a huge apple tree. A little boy loved to come and play around it every day. He climbed to the tree top, ate the apples, took a nap under the shadow… He loved the tree and the tree loved to play with him.

Time went by…The little boy had grown up and he no longer played around the tree.

One day, the boy came back to the tree and looked sad. “Come and play with me,” the tree asked the boy.

“I am no longer a kid, I don’ play around trees anymore.” The boy replied, “I want toys. I need money to buy them.” “Sorry, but I don’t have money…but you can pick all my apples and sell them. So, you will have money.” The boy was so excited. He picked all the apples on the tree and left happily. The boy didn’t come back after he picked the apples. The tree was sad.

One day, the boy returned and the tree was so excited. “Come and play with me.” The tree said. “I don’t have time to play. I have to work for my family. We need a house for shelter. Can you help me?” “Sorry, but I don’t have a house. But you can cut off my branches to build your house.” So the boy cut all the branches of the tree and left happily.

The tree was glad to see him happy but the boy didn’t appear since then. The tree was again lonely and sad. One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted. “Come and play with me!” the tree said.

“I am sad and getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?” “Use my trunk to build the boat. You can sail and be happy.” So the boy cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and did not show up for a long time.

Finally, the boy returned after he left for so many years. “Sorry, my boy. But I don’t have anything for you anymore. This is a story of everyone. The tree is our parent. When we were young, we loved to play with Mom and Dad… When we grow up, we leave them, and only come to them when we need something or when we are in trouble. No matter what, parents will always be there and give everything they could to make you happy. You may think that the boy is cruel to the tree but that's how all of us are treating our parents.

科技类的我不懂，不过要理解文化环境的话，电影是最好的办法。既然是看科技类回的文答章还能理解的话，英文的底子应该不错。第一件事丢掉英汉词典，那是学习语言的垃圾障碍。查词只能用英英。我自己一直用的郎文高阶。建议看原版英文电影，如果听力不是太强的，先看有字幕版，第一次大略看，整个通读理解，第2次逐字逐句抄下来， 然后反复模仿，不光发音，语气语调全要模仿，就算是怪腔怪调的也不能怕丢脸。这个过程其实很类似疯狂英语。但是确实行相当之有效。多模仿几部就能看出效果。后面就可以看一些偏重类的电影或电视节目，网上有软件可以看到国外电视节目的，或者找找看有没这类视频下载。你可以看类似科技咨讯类的节目，同样是通读后进行反复模仿。这样无意识的累积大量的科技类词汇，并且不是强制的每句都跟中文意思对上号。最重要的是你看字幕的时候，千万不要去进行翻译！简单说，是直接一晃过去脑袋就知道这句话要表达什么，而不是翻译成中文，这个是重点！举个最简单的例子是你听到APPLE脑子里出现的是个苹果而不是苹果这个中文词。如果一直靠着英翻汉汉翻英的思维转换的话，一辈子也不可能真正理解外国文化。
