一、趣味教学，激发阅读兴趣
兴趣是最好的老师。因而，小学英语教学必须最大限度地激发学生的学习兴趣。而阅读能力更是直接受到阅读兴趣的影响，阅读兴趣高，阅读动机就强。教师的任务就是引发学生天生的阅读兴趣和好奇心，使阅读成为令人愉快的活动。这是顺利开展英语阅读教学、有效提高学生英语阅读水平的根本保证。对英语学习者来说，如果没有词汇，听、说、读、写任何方面都谈不上。掌握词汇是英语学习的基础，更是进行阅读的前提。因此在教学中我十分注重学生词汇的学习和积累。单一的读读写写的学习方法激发不了学生认读识记单词的欲望，只有增加词汇学习和识记的趣味性，才能使学生真正愿意并乐意去积累词汇。在平时的词汇教学中，我将儿歌、游戏等多种形式带进课堂，在学习的同时完成词汇的积累。
二、精心设计阅读教学，提高阅读能力
对于英语学习入门阶段的小学生来说，传统的阅读教学是比较乏味枯燥的，教师应改革过去的阅读教学模式，积极探索新的方法，精心设计阅读教学。为了提高学生的阅读能力，我认为可以从这几个方面去尝试和实践。一是可以让学生试着把文章转变为对话，进行表演。通过编对话、表演，再回去朗读那篇文章，就更有助于对材料的理解。在这样一个学习过程中，不仅学生的英语阅读能力得到了锻炼，也培养了学生的思维能力、分析能力和创新能力。其次，老师可以寻找一些语言材料和学生一起阅读和理解，直接帮助学生提高这方面的能力，扩大学生的词汇量，然后再和学生一起将这些小故事改编成小的短剧。一起来读一读，演一演，激发学生的学习兴趣。再次，我们也可以参照语文的教学方法，给学生一些图片，让学生进行看图写话的训练，自编故事。还有就是老师要尽可能让学生多接触一些难度适中，词汇量合适的文章或对话让学生阅读，这对今后也是有帮助的。
三、课外阅读，丰富阅读积累
学生英语阅读能力的提高是一个长期的、循序渐进的过程，毫无捷径，贵在坚持，重在积累。因此，我鼓励学生积极进行课外阅读。课外阅读脱离了课堂教学的时间、空间的限制，更具有自主性和灵活性。通过课外阅读，为学生提供大量的接触英语语料的机会，增强了学生的语感，丰富了学生的知识，了解了中外文化差异，从而提升了学生阅读及理解的层次，拓展学习的深度与广度，积小流而成江海，积硅步而至千里。
